Jason Kovacs | Executive Director

I love walking with people through whatever they are facing. Some of my particular areas of interest include: marriage, parenting, trauma, depression, anger, anxiety, addiction, stress, adoption related issues, and work related struggles. I received my Masters of Arts from Reformed Theological Seminary and utilize a gospel-centered, clinically-informed approach.

I have specialized training in trauma care through TBRI® and a member of the Association of Biblical Counselors. I have the privilege of serving on the Council of the Biblical Counseling Coalition and the board of the Canadian Biblical Counseling Coalition. I am also an adjunct professor, teaching Biblical counseling, at Heritage Theological Seminary and Millar College of the Bible.

I have been married for over 20 years to Shawnda and we have 5 incredible children. In my spare time I enjoy going for bike rides, swimming, good coffee, and reading.

I have limited availability. Please email me to inquire.

More about Jason…

What led you to become a counselor?

I became a counselor by way of being a pastor seeing the great need for shepherding and care that existed in the church and around me. Over the years, a burden and vision for how things could be different when it comes to care in the church grew, and God provided the opportunities.

What do you enjoy most about your work as a counselor?

I love participating in what Jesus is doing in people’s lives and in the church.

How do you take care of your own mental and emotional well-being?

I spend time with Jesus, with my wife, family and friends. I try to get away periodically to be alone with the Lord and get perspective on things.

Do you have any specific areas of expertise or personal interests within counseling?

I love working with couples and with people who have experienced trauma. I also love working with pastors and ministry leaders.

What are your favorite books or resources related to counseling or personal growth?

There are so many! I have been deeply influenced by Tim Keller, John Piper, David Powlison, Paul Tripp, TF Torrance, Richard Lovelace, Eric Johnson, and Curt Thompson.

How do you integrate your faith or spirituality into your personal life?

I spend regular time with Jesus in His Word, meditating and considering what He is doing and saying. I seek to listen, obey, and join Him in His work around me. I love the doctrine of our union with Christ!

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of your counseling work?

Mountain Biking, good coffee, reading, exploring new cities.

Are there any personal experiences or life lessons that have shaped your approach to counseling?

My own experience of brokenness and need for grace, like the prodigal son, and my own story of suffering have shaped my approach most. They continue to shape me today.

How do you handle stress or challenges in your life?

Lately, when I’m overwhelmed with stress, I find myself praying Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Sometimes, I fall asleep praying it and realize I’m more like the disciples than Jesus. I’m so grateful for the freedom and invitation to pray honestly and that we can ask the Father to take away the cups of suffering that afflict us. And we can trust He knows best.

What is one piece of advice or wisdom you find yourself sharing often with clients?

I find myself often encouraging my clients that Jesus is present (nearer than we can fathom), Jesus is working (doing 10,000 more things than we can see at any given moment), and Jesus is speaking (sometimes very quietly but always personally).
